Rome gave Caius Regillus everything a commander needs: discipline, structure, purpose, and an enemy.
Anturia has given him none of those things.
As the Ninth Legion trains in an unfamiliar world, Caius struggles to maintain the order that once defined both him and his men. His soldiers can still march. His officers can still command. The discipline Rome forged into them remains.
But for the first time, Caius doesn’t know what victory is supposed to look like.
And while one unexpected woman grows harder to ignore, his most trusted officer notices something Caius would rather believe he has under control.
The Ninth Legion survived the journey to Anturia.
Now Caius must determine what remains of Rome when Rome is no longer there.
