Some stories begin with an idea.
Anturia became a lifetime.
I’m Heather L. McMillan, creator of the world of Anturia.
For more than forty years, I’ve been creating stories set in what eventually became this world. Some of its characters have been with me since childhood. Others arrived later through decades of writing, rewriting, and collaborative freeform role-playing before finding their place in the stories readers experience today.
Over the years, places like Ivory, Teithia, Che’el de Velg’lan, Graywood, Thantos, and Alltud have grown through countless notebooks, maps, sketches, and revisions into a living world with its own history, cultures, languages, and traditions.
As Anturia evolved, so did the questions behind it. How do ordinary people become part of oppressive systems? Can violence ever truly end violence? Can common people who aren’t heroes stand together to overcome bad systems? What happens when good people make terrible choices for understandable reasons? Those questions became the foundation of every story I tell.
Today, Anturia spans thousands of years of history across audio dramas, novels, artwork, maps, and an ever-growing collection of worldbuilding.
When the weather is nice, you’ll often find me at Rosewood Retreat, my small off-grid hideaway tucked into the woods near my rose garden, where many chapters of Anturia have been imagined, outlined, and rewritten.
Anturia isn’t just a setting I created; it’s a world I’ve been coming home to for most of my life.
I hope that when you visit Anturia, you’ll find characters who stay with you long after you’ve left.
PS = I use Fiverr to commission artists. If you’re interested and do not use AI to generate your images, reach out to contact@anturia.org. I’m always looking for different interpretations of my places and characters.
